The Urbanova district in Terrebonne, a forward-thinking development stands out for its modern approach where functionality meets visual harmony. The City of Terrebonne entrusted Cyclone Lighting with the design of outdoor luminaires, aiming to equip the neighborhood with streetlights and light columns tailored to local characteristics while meeting specific urban lighting requirements.
Illuminating traffic zones near a high school, police offices, and residential buildings—required lighting that balances safety, efficiency, and aesthetics. The goal was to ensure lighting powerful enough to make pedestrians feel comfortable and secure, while avoiding glare and light intrusion, especially around schools and nearby homes.
The project features the integration of Tribeca luminaires and Zen light columns, mounted on aluminum poles coated with a wood-look paint finish. This visual choice addresses a key challenge: combining a natural, authentic touch with enhanced weather resistance. Real wood, which can deteriorate quickly when exposed to the elements, was replaced with a wood-look finish carefully selected to replicate the natural grain while ensuring optimal material longevity.
Zen light columns add a layer of sophistication to the urban landscape with their sleek silhouette and evenly diffused light. They incorporate colored LED technology, allowing the city to customize lighting moods based on seasons, local events, or holidays. Equipped with programmable pixels, these columns offer extensive animation flexibility—from simple color transitions to dynamic projections such as waving flags or moving patterns. This feature transforms lighting into a true tool for artistic and community expression.
Tribeca luminaires blend seamlessly into the district’s natural surroundings. Their refined design, combined with advanced technology, ensures high-performance lighting and extended durability through optimized heat dissipation. For collector streets and boulevards, a Type III light distribution was specifically chosen. This distribution projects light laterally, covering a wide area perpendicular to the luminaire’s axis. Particularly suited for roadside installations, it effectively illuminates traffic surfaces while minimizing dark zones. This configuration ensures optimal photometric uniformity, reduces the number of fixtures needed, and promotes more efficient energy management. By concentrating light where it’s most needed, it enhances user visibility while aligning with sustainable development principles.
The Urbanova lighting project is a true success, combining aesthetics, performance, and innovation to create an ideal luminous environment for the well-being of residents and visitors alike.
